I have a samsung m500 cell phone and having trouble setting up a san disk microSD memory stick?

I just bought a new 2gb san disk microDS for my samsung m500 cell phone and my computer wont recognize it when I plug it in. Now I have formated the disk on the cell phone and it still doesn't work. Need help and please in layman terms please.

Since I used to be a tech support geek, I notice you gave some good, and relevant information, but still incomplete. Your phone was made for a variety of carriers, and the specifications will often not be the same for all.

First, If you formatted the card on your phone, take it out, and put it in your computer... reformat it then. As far as I know, the card should be formatted in the FAT32 format, if given a choice. If you don't have the multi card reader, get one, they're cheap enough, and you'll need it in the future.

Your card should have come formatted, so I don't know why you felt the need to format it, and in many instances, that ccould be what's wrong in the first place. Another possibility; and you'll have to read the product specifications, and make certain that the firmware (software, burned into the chips on your phone) support reading cards as large as 2Gb.

Chances are, your phone does have a limit... so running out and buying the lates/greatest card (just so you can say you have it) isn't always the best idea. Let's see if I can think of anything else.... okay, you might try to return, exchange the card as defective... it could have bad sectors... if your phone just can't read the card, you might wanna offer it in trade to someone with a 1Gb card (or two 1Gb cards!).

I would read the literature that came with the phone, or go online www.samsung.com and try to find out if there's a size limit to your card. Don't feel bad, yours truly ran in to this issue with his PDA not too long ago!
