Canon Camcorder Vixia
What do I need to upload video from canon high-def VIXIA hv20 camcorder?
a firewire port on your computer... and a firewire cable. USB will not work. And a video editor that can handle DV and HDV - MovieMaker can't handle HDV unless it is the newest version... iMovieHD can handle HDV since version 5 (current version is 8).
The DV port on the miniDV tape based camcorder is always 4-pin. The firewire port on the Macintosh is always 6-pin. The firewire port on a traditional Windows machine can be either 4-pin or 6-pin... or, it may not have a firewire port at all. Since you didn't tell us what computer you have, it is impossible to know. If your computer does not have a firewire port, hopefully it has an available expansion slot so you can add one. Macs have had a firewire 400 port for about 10 years - standard. The only exception is the MacBook Air.
USB-firewire converter/adapters will not work.
LOTS of hard drive space. Imported HDV will use about 44 gig (yes, gig) of computer hard drive space per hour of imported HDV. It is suggested that a minimum of a 500 gig drive be used just for video project files.
A good CPU for importing, rendering transitions and titles and special effects and exporting to other file types - and rendering out to a DVD is a good idea. My Mac is 3-4 years old. A little slow, but it gets the job done. LOTS of RAM helps a lot.

Founded in August 1937 in Tokyo, Canon is a leading producer of imaging and optical products. With regional offices placed all around the world, Canon has become a global brand, producing quality printers, camcorders, and other products. Canon's development of the VIXIA camcorder line has really demonstrated their power and reputation in the industry. A recent release, the Canon VIXIA HF200 offers a wide range of features that, while costing the customer a bit more, gives way more as well. Look to the HF200 if you want a camcorder that packs more features than it looks like it can hold.
At the top of the feature list is the recording directly to a memory card. Rather than having to link the device up directly to a computer and transfer the video out, like most MiniDV camcorders require, the HF200 allows you to remove the memory card to view the video immediately. No transfers, no re-transfers, and a whole lot of saved time.
Surprisingly, the VIXIA HF200 weighs only 12 ounces flat. While other camcorders that don't quite match up with the HF200's features weigh upwards of two pounds, or 32 ounces, the HF200 keeps itself within a manageable weight. With all of the features it has, this is an excellent weight.
The HF200 records at up to 24Mbps, which is currently the highest recording quality available for any camcorder on the market. The common problem of recording a moving subject was virtually solved when Canon put the 24Mbps quality into the VIXIA HF200.
Canon's VIXIA HF200 takes face detection to a whole new level. While the earliest camcorders that had this detection ability tracked down only a few faces for each shot, the VIXIA HF200 can now fully detect up to 35 faces at once, with up to 9 frames shown at any one time
A Canon exclusive feature, the HF200 has instant auto focus, effectively reducing the time it takes to track into a subject. This is one of the major ways that moving subjects can now be accurately recorded. Changing subject is also extremely easy with this feature, available in Canon's newer camcorders.
The 24p cinema mode makes your video look professional. This cinema mode changes up the recording capture rate to match those used in actual movies. The camcorder can also change up the color so that the classic film look (a bit darker) is achieved.
If you're looking for a camera that offers a wide range of features, the Canon VIXIA HF200 is the way to go. While it is a bit more expensive than you would expect, the extra money you pay gets you the extra features. You can find a Canon VIXIA HF200 for around $600, a small price to pay for an extremely well upgraded set of features.
