Why doesn't my Mac G5 recognize my panasonic SDR- H90 camcorder?

The software installation CD is only for PC.

Recognize? When the camcorder is in Play mode and connected to your Mac with a USB cable, the Panny's hard drive should mout to the desktop of the Mac. There is nothing on the installation CD from Panasonic you need - Even Windows users don't need anything on that CD.

You will also need to download and install an application to transcode that video from the camcorder before iMovie can use the video.

MPEG StreamClip

can do the transcoding to MOV or MP4 files that iMovie can deal with. After the video files are converted, quit StreamClip and launch iMovie. Drag the converted files to the iMovie Capture area (or the Clips pane).
